Introduction to English 217 Class



Hello everyone!

 My name is Samuel Collins, but I prefer you call me Samuel, not Sam. Meanwhile however, because so many Americans are ignorant of the languages and cultures of other nations, I believe it's wise to   mention something about my rather obscured birth place, Liberia. This little country hides itself along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, in West Africa. We speak English, and use dollars as our currency.

 I have a wide range of habits-- ranging from reading, travelling, writing and playing Words With Friends, on my phone. There are a lot more I rather not mention here otherwise I would find myself writing a memoir. .

 Surprisingly, I am still having trouble zooming in on exactly what to major in in college, and perhaps this is partly because I haven't figured out yet how I want to live my life. In any case, I am thinking about a profession which would allow me to work primarily for myself, and some times for corporations, companies or non-profits organizations-- and in doing so-- still continue to have some leverage over my own schedule. Of course,  age, income and rapidly decentralized social justice in today's world are all factors which are influencing me along the way. The bottom line is; I want to be in charge of my own time, including things like; where do I work from? Can I do this on my own schedule? Can I travel the world and still remained employed? -- Are all questions I have considered.

A Hero At Lane Community College

First, let me begin by saying that I am in no way any expert about what a great Helper is or should be, because I myself, _ there have been times when I painfully turned my eyes away from the suffering of others only because I wasn't sure whether it was necessary to help. But every day, I learn something new about myself, and often it's from the people that I meet. Another thing that has become law to me over the years is that life will humble you at one point or another. It humbles all of us. This being said, I can now introduce the Helper of the month. Mr. Heath Pierce has been selected as Helper for the month of December, for his supreme sense of humility, principles and helpfulness, here at the Lane Community College.
